PROJECT MANDATE

Complete redesign of an existing website to enhance its utility, navigation, and overall look to ensure a better user experience.

A laptop mockup showcasing the homepage.A yellow and handwritten quote saying "Abolishing the people does not mean the abolishing of community safety", on a black background.

DESIGN THINKING

The Defund the Police website serves as a central platform where individuals and activists unite to advocate for reducing funding to police departments. It’s part of a larger movement aimed at highlighting the unfair treatment of Black and Indigenous communities. This website is important because it provides information and tools to assist those advocating for police defunding.

Recognizing the significance of the issues concerning Black lives and police defunding, I realized that the website needed significant improvements. It should present its content in an authentic and organized manner, accurately reflecting the seriousness of the topics being addressed.

DESIGN MAKING

The redesigned website is a noticeable departure from its previous version. It now showcases black and white photography alongside hand-drawn and hand-written elements, adding bursts of colour and intensity to certain areas. These small details add an authentic and human touch to the website. The UX and UI have been enhanced, featuring clearer buttons and a more user-friendly menu. Each page follows a clear hierarchy, ensuring smooth navigation. The overall aesthetic now aligns more closely with the website’s topic.

Designing this website was fulfilling as it offered me valuable insights into an important issue while also granting me the privilege of presenting it in an impactful way.
