PROJECT MANDATE

Designing new and creative jam packaging for Les Marchés Publics de Montréal, a beloved institution in the Montreal community known for offering fresh, locally sourced food while supporting local businesses.

DESIGN THINKING

In today’s market, traditional jam packaging often adopts a vintage aesthetic, characterized by classic features such as lined patterns on lids and the use of serif typography. While these features give off a cozy and nostalgic feeling, I wanted to stray away from those norms. Instead of sticking to the usual style, I decided to add an illustrated character. The reason was to mix the familiar tradition of jam packaging with a modern twist. By doing so, I aim to make the packaging appealing to both young adults and older generations.

DESIGN MAKING

The final design features a fun toast character holding its featured berry, indicating the jam’s flavour. This playful addition adds a memorable touch to the packaging, especially with its bold typography and consistent use of bright colours on a cream palette, including the lid stickers. The combination of the small jar size and the fun yet simple label design creates a visually appealing brand identity in the end.

Designing this project was truly enjoyable as it allowed me to create a new friend in my design journey! :D
